Oftentimes, programs that help those in need inadvertently reinforce the moral tax of poverty, reinforcing the stereotypes that those in poverty are needy, dependent, and without self-respect. This moral tax has consequences; it lowers self-esteem and reduces executive functioning, further maintaining the cycle of poverty. ONE GOOD TURN GIVES NEIGHBORS A HAND UP.
